New Delhi: The coal production in the country increased by 14.49% to 84.63 million tonnes (MT), media outlets reported, citing government figures, on July 2.
Provisional government figures show the country produced 73.92 MT of coal in June last fiscal year. The coal ministry stated that Coal India Ltd (CIL) produced 63.10 MT in June, an increase of 8.87 percent from the previous year.
In June, India's coal shipment reached 85.76 MT, showing a growth of 10.15 percent from the previous year. Furthermore, by June 30, there was a significant increase in the coal stock owned by coal companies, with a total of 95.02 MT.
This increase demonstrates a yearly growth rate of 41.68 percent. At the same time, thermal power plants (TPP) saw a significant rise in coal stock to 46.70 MT (Provisional) on the same day, recording a yearly growth rate of 30.15 percent," the statement included.
Coal India is responsible for more than 80 percent of the coal production in the country.
