New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed an agreement with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to elevate the bilateral relationship between India and Egypt to a ‘Strategic Partnership’.

They discussed various areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, defense, security, renewable energy, cultural ties, and people-to-people exchanges.

In addition to the strategic partnership agreement, three MoUs were signed between India and Egypt which covered the fields of agriculture, archaeology and antiquities, and competition law, indicating the intent to strengthen cooperation in these areas.

During his visit, Modi was conferred with the highest state honour of Egypt, the ‘Order of the Nile’, by President El-Sisi, symbolising the enduring friendship between the two countries. Modi also visited the historic Al-Hakim Mosque in Cairo, expressing his appreciation for Egypt’s rich heritage and culture.

Further, PM Modi also held a roundtable meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and engaged with thought leaders in Egypt as part of his two-day visit.

Modi had a productive discussion with Hassan Allam, the CEO of Hassan Allam Holding Company, one of the largest Egyptian companies in the Middle East and North African region. They explored possibilities of closer cooperation between Indian companies and Hassan Allam Holding in the fields of renewable energy and green hydrogen.
