New Delhi: India and Colombia reviewed their bilateral relations and identified new areas of collaboration, such as defence, renewable energy, and railways, during the 10th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in New Delhi on Tuesday. The consultations were led by Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) from India, and Jorge Enrique Rojas Rodriguez, Colombia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including trade and investment, energy, railways, health, pharmaceuticals, traditional medicines, digital technology, and space. Both sides also discussed consular issues, education, culture, and people-to-people ties. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that both countries expressed satisfaction with the progress made in various sectors and agreed to deepen ongoing engagements while exploring new avenues for cooperation.
India and Colombia also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal later highlighted on X (formerly Twitter) that defence and railways were among the key sectors identified for future collaboration.
India and Colombia share a long history of diplomatic relations, officially established in 1959. The two nations celebrated 60 years of diplomatic ties in 2019. Colombia opened its Embassy in New Delhi in 1972, followed by India establishing its Embassy in Bogotá in 1973.
