Guwahati: The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) has said it is pleased with the announcement of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Kamrup, Assam, by the Ministry of Education. The initiative, in consultation with the Secretary, Higher Education Department, and the Government of Assam, is a significant step towards enhancing the educational landscape of the region, the FINER, the oldest apex business association in Northeast, said.

Recognizing the "transformative impact" an institution of this repute can have on the local economy and the broader socio-economic fabric of the region, the FINER predicted that the IIM will "stimulate local businesses, encourage entrepreneurship, and create new job opportunities, contributing to the overall development of Assam."

“We commend the Ministry of Education and the Government of Assam for their visionary approach in bringing an IIM to Kamrup", Bajrang Lohia, president of FINER, said. "This move aligns perfectly with our mission to promote sustainable economic growth and educational excellence in the North Eastern Region. We look forward to supporting this initiative and collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure its successful implementation.”

The trade body further added, "The IIM will serve as a cornerstone for higher education and professional management training in the region, providing world-class education to students from Assam and neighboring states while attracting talent from across the country."

Last week, the proposal for the establishment of a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) near Assam's capital Guwahati was greenlit by the centre. The new IIM will be set up at Marabhita in Kamrup District in Assam.
