Guwahati: The Hero Group founded Brij Mohan Lall Munjal University (BMU) has introduced a scholarship facility for 20 students from Northeast india under their corporate social responsibility project.

The UGC-approved University with an A grade is located in Haryana and was founded in 2014. It offers myriad undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including law, engineering technology, and the liberal arts.

“Some scholarships are provided for the entire duration of the program and for the weaker section, the family income should be less than 8 lakhs," Anuradha Mandal, deputy manager, who is looking after the Northeast scholarship programme, told this media platform. "The students should be quite meritorious and deserving. We give them this money so that they are not debarred from quality education in want of money.

The university, according to Mandal, is focusing on the Northeast students and the same scholarship scheme will also be applicable next year. "We are an expensive university for tuition fees and hostel fees as fees can range between Rs 20-33 lakhs,": Mandal told Business North East, explaining the necessity of the programme.

She further stressed that the economically weaker section category gets full aid in this context. "Yes, it is a pan-India scholarship. Last year, we gave scholarships to around 40-50 students. This year also we are looking for the same number," said Mandal.

So how do students from the Northeast apply?

They can either reach out to Mandal or check the website. There is an internal online test and scholarship seekers will have to approach scholarship committee members.

Mandal added, "Scholarship seekers will have to give all the details like the number of family members, income of the family, sources of income, etc. If the committee member agrees to it then the scholarship process is offered. This scholarship is provided to all the programs. As of now, we have 7 more slots. The student-faculty ratio varies from one department to another and our alumni have earned as high as Rs 40 lakh. The USP of the university is that we belong to the Hero Group."

The founder of the Hero Group, Brijmohan Lall Munjal was a classic first-generation entrepreneur and a renowned figure in the automotive industry. He was a man who started small, dreamt big, and through sheer grit and perseverance created one of the country’s largest corporate groups and the world’s leading two-wheeler company.

He was the former president of The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and a former board member of the Reserve Bank of India.
