A Memorandum of understanding has been signed between Guwahati Jal Board and DAY-NULM today, chaired by DC Kamrup (M) and MD of GJB Pallav Gopal Jha with MD of DAY-NULM, Panchami Choudhury and Anurag Rudra, Assistant Commissioner, Kamrup (M).
The MoU signing led to the launch of a unique convergence initiative which will launch the ‘Jal Sakhi’ initiative. The Jal Sakhis are drawn from self help groups of DAY-NULM and they have been exhaustively trained by GJB in IT and Communication to act as ambassadors of the Guwahati Jal Board.
The Jal Sakhis will be reading the meters of GJB connections, collecting payments, carry out IEC activities, recording grievances and act as facilitations for the public.
"This initiative will lead to capacity building of Jal Sakhis, give financial incentive and economic empowerment to the Jal Sakhis. They will be the grass root workers and bridge the gap between the consumers and us," said the MD of GJB.
More than 750 water connections have been given at Chandmari/Zoo Road, Anil Nagar/Nabin Nagar, Tarun Nagar/ Shree Nagar, Bhaskar Nagar/Geetanagar, Ambikagiri Nagar/ Jonali, Zoo Road/ Ambikagiri Nagar, Hatigarh and Geetanagar.
