Guwahati: The city's households can now hope for the best as the Assam government's JICA-assisted project is holding water.

The Guwahati Water Supply Project has been partially commissioned and the Guwahati Jal Board will now be benefiting about 13,000 households in various neighbourhoods in Guwahati.

The project, which began in 2009 and is expected to be fully operational by March 2024, aims at supplying clean drinkable water to 1.25 lakh families, according a media communique. The water treatment facility was inaugurated at Kharghuli.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called the partial inauguration a milestone in realising the expectations and ambitions of the people of Guwahati in his remarks at a public gathering held in conjunction with the occasion.

The chief minister exuded hope that the project's partial commissioning will be able to ease the water shortage problems experienced by a significant portion of the city's residents.

He said that all required procedures are being done to guarantee that the entire project is finished by March 2024.
He stated that the partial commissioning will fulfil a long-standing desire of the people of East Guwahati by giving them access to a well-maintained water delivery infrastructure.
