Guwahati : Ashok Singhal, the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister of Assam said, the government is yet to receive the results of the research conducted by the designated IIT team.
Singhal said that research and surveys take time. However, he assured that the government is actively working to address the situation and has taken several initiatives in this regard.
Singhal's decision to request a comprehensive study from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) was prompted by two incidents of underground drinking water pipeline bursts in Guwahati within a month.
He held a meeting with Professor Rajeev Kumar Bhattacharya from the Civil Engineering Department at IIT Guwahati.
During the meeting, Singhal emphasized the need for scientific solutions to prevent such incidents in the future. The study commissioned by Singhal aims to assess various aspects, including the design integrity, safety factors, and operation and maintenance protocols of the pipeline infrastructure.
Singhal urged Professor Bhattacharya to initiate the study immediately and provide a preliminary report as soon as possible to expedite the resolution process. Additionally, the housing and urban affairs department secretary, Pabitra Ram Khaund, has been assigned by Singhal to investigate the recent incident of an underground drinking water pipe burst in Rajgarh, Guwahati. Another similar incident occurred in the Kharghuli area on May 25.
