New Delhi: Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the government aims to turn India Post into a logistics company and boost the department's revenue by 50-60 percent in the next 3-4 years. Addressing the crowd at a Public Affairs Forum of India event in the capital city, the minister announced that approximately 25,000 villages without mobile coverage will be linked by the following year.
The postal service is advancing rapidly. Presently, our annual revenue stands at approximately Rs 12,000 crore. "I might attempt to boost that by 50-60 percent in the next 3-4 years," Scindia stated. He mentioned that the postal department can bring services directly to the homes of individuals living in rural and distant areas. He also stated that he will be exploring all possible services to boost India Post's revenue. We must evolve beyond being solely a mail and letter company. We must evolve into a logistics firm. Scindia emphasized the need to consider route optimization and utilize multiple sources for transporting services.
The minister noted that the government is investing a significant sum in constructing extensive infrastructure in the Northeast, with Rs 48,000 allocated specifically for the development of road networks. He mentioned that there are still 6,000 villages in the Northeast and 25,000 across the country without mobile towers. Scindia stated that the goal of the USO Fund is to establish mobile networks in all 25,000 villages by the middle of the upcoming year to ensure that every village in the country has mobile connectivity.
