Food processing seminar in NE advocates for healthier nation

Guwahati: A food processing seminar, titled ‘Harnessing the potential of Food Processing in NER for a healthier nation’, was organised by the Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) under the aegis of the Ministry of Food Processing Industry

The event witnessed addresses from Uttam Saikia, general manager of Assam District Industry and Commerce Centre, Morteza Ahmed of Assam Department of Agriculture, and Piyush Kumar, nodal officer, Government E Market, who shared their insights into the significant role of food processing in the region’s development. 

The technical session was equally engaging, featuring presentations from experts in the field. Gunin Roy, a renowned Millet Specialist from the Arias Society, enlightened the audience on the production, harvest, and numerous benefits of millets, emphasising their potential to contribute to a healthier nation. 
Following this, Trishanku Barman, Marketing Manager of PMFME Scheme, Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited, shared insights into the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, which aims to empower local food processors and promote sustainable growth.

The seminar witnessed productive discussions and fruitful interactions among participants, industry experts, and policymakers, paving the way for potential collaborations and investments in the region's food processing sector. The event served as a catalyst for fostering a healthier nation through sustainable food processing practices and innovative approaches to branding and marketing.

Sanchit Jain, a consultant from Ernst and Young, presented on the Government E Market, showcasing the platform’s instrumental role in boosting food processing-related businesses and fostering collaborations between government and private enterprises.
