Guwahati: The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) recently organised an interactive session with stakeholders and industry fraternity in the city to foster awareness about the forthcoming rollout of mandatory quality control and safety standards for various household electrical appliances by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
The meeting, under the aegis of DPIIT and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), was aimed at prioritising consumer safety, enhancing product quality and cultivating a conducive business environment.
A few products to be brought under this order are electrical appliances for hair and skin, electrical appliances for commercial dispensing, bicycle and bicycle parts and DC cables.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Bajrang Lohia, president of FINER, who expressed his gratitude to all attendees for their presence and active participation.
BIS’s Guwahati head Sabyasachi Dhar delivered an informative presentation elucidating the benefits of certification and the necessary procedures to obtain a license for using the standard mark.
Dr Ashish Kumar, senior consultant from DPIIT, delivered a comprehensive presentation on quality control orders, emphasising their requirements and the products that will soon fall under the ambit of mandatory certification.
The session was further enriched with a presentation by Partha Dasgupta, Senior Fellow at IIT Technology and Development Foundation/Executive Vice-President of VisionAIZE, USA, who provided insights into the realm of Industry 4.0 and futuristic challenges.
The event concluded with the closing remarks and a vote of thanks delivered by Surendrer Chowkhani, director of FINER, expressing his appreciation for the active involvement and dedication of all participants.
