Guwahati:  Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma addressing the delegates to the National Executive Committee Meeting of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FICCI) said, Assam is likely to surpass Punjab as 16th largest state in terms of GSDP in two years.

The National Executive Committee Meeting of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FICCI) is being held for the first time in Assam since the establishment of the industry body in 1927.

Dr. Sarma expressed his gratitude to FICCI for choosing Guwahati, Assam's capital, as the location for the meeting. He believed that this decision would contribute to the state's ongoing economic growth. He also emphasized that hosting events like this aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for Assam and the rest of the Northeast region, positioning the Northeast as a center for growth.

The Chief Minister predicts that within two years, Assam would surpass Punjab as the 16th largest state in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). He also mentioned the substantial increase in public and capital expenditures and the unprecedented growth in the state's tourism sector.

Sarma mentioned that Assam would become one of the top 15 states in the country across all fronts in the near future. He discussed the government's efforts to create an industry-friendly ecosystem, including the development of a custom industrial policy that considers the specific needs of industries on a case-by-case basis. This policy would depart from the current one-size-fits-all approach.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government's actions to enhance transparency in governance, which have benefited the industrial sector as well. He expressed hope that leading industrialists and businesses in the country would take advantage of the opportunities offered by a revitalized Assam.

Notable attendees included FICCI President Subhrakant Panda, Vice President Harsh V. Agarwal, Secretary General Shailesh Pathak, FICCI Northeast Advisory Council Chairman Ranjit Borthakur, and other industry experts at the meeting today.
