Guwahati: Farmers' organisation Bharat Krishak Samaj (BKS) stated on Saturday that limits on agricultural exports constitute an "indirect tax" on farmers since they are unable to profit from increased global commodity prices.
In response to the government's decision to limit wheat exports, Bharat Krishak Samaj Chairman Ajay Virjakhar tweeted, "Restrictions on agricultural exports are an indirect tax on farmers in nations where enforced."
Policy subdues farm gate pricing, preventing farmers from benefiting from increased commodity prices while incurring greater input costs, he noted.
