Itanagar: The event called "Promotion of Millets in India," organized by NERAMAC, began today at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. This project seeks to promote the nutritional advantages of millets and support farmers in boosting production in the area. Mr. Anjal Kumar Dutta, who is the Deputy General Manager (Agri-Business) at NERAMAC, commenced the event by greeting dignitaries, farmers, entrepreneurs, and participants. He stressed the importance of millets by calling them "India's Golden Grain," pointing out their potential as a healthy substitute for rice. Dutta also highlighted the Indian government's growing attention towards millets, resulting in the designation of 2023 as the International Year of Millets, and NERAMAC's dedication to popularizing these grains in homes.
Madam Tumken Angu, Deputy Director (Plant Protection) of the Agriculture Department, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, commended NERAMAC for their work in the agricultural and horticultural industries, specifically for their efforts in promoting millets. She referred to millets as a genuine "superfood" and emphasized the significance of cooperation between NERAMAC and the state government to support local farmers. Conversations at the event emphasized the importance of millets in traditional diets throughout history and the importance of protecting these grains for food security, agricultural diversity, and their nutritional benefits. The participants praised NERAMAC's efforts to promote millet consumption.
The occasion included booths displaying a variety of millet products, with the goal of educating the public and boosting sales. Around 50 recipients, including millet growers and business owners from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, took part in the program backed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Stakeholders maintain a positive outlook on the future of millet farming and consumption in the area as the situation progresses, acknowledging its ability to improve food security and support sustainable farming practices.
