East Tech 2023: Indian Army's Initiative to Boost Defense Technology in North East

Guwahati: The world of defense is in a constant state of evolution, driven by the need to stay ahead in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. From advanced weapon systems and surveillance technologies to cyber warfare and artificial intelligence, innovations in technology empower armed forces to protect their nations effectively. 

In an effort to propel the defense manufacturing sector in India's North East region, the Eastern Command, the oldest and largest command of the Indian Army, is set to host a groundbreaking event, "East Tech 2023." This two-day mega defense event, a first of its kind in the North East, is poised to showcase cutting-edge defense technology trends and identify innovative solutions to address operational challenges in the Eastern Sector.

Scheduled to take place at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati on October 10th and 11th, 2023, East Tech 2023 aims to empower the Eastern Command with contemporary indigenous technology, fostering self-reliance and addressing evolving security dynamics.

In a joint effort between the Indian Army and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of Assam, this event provides a unique platform for startups and established players in the defense industry from Assam and other Northeastern states to showcase their latest innovations. It underscores the region's potential to contribute significantly to India's defense capabilities.

East Tech 2023 seeks to expand participants' technological knowledge base and familiarize them with state-of-the-art technologies and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions available in the defense sector.

The event underscores India's commitment to "Raksha Atmanirbharta" by promoting indigenous, innovative, and future-proof technologies. It also aims to facilitate closer integration of North East defense manufacturers into national supply chains.

East Tech 2023 will focus on providing tools for enhancing battlefield transparency, command and control architecture, communication systems, information dominance, electronic warfare, nano-technology integrated micro-electromechanical systems (IMEMS), artificial intelligence, robotics, unmanned warfare systems, mobility, chemical-biological-radiological-nuclear (CBRN) defense, advanced weapon systems, survival systems, and non-lethal weapons.

Additionally, the event will feature a seminar on niche technologies in collaboration with IIT Guwahati and a medical symposium with AIIMS Guwahati. These initiatives underscore the holistic approach to modernizing India's defense capabilities.

The event aims to identify suitable technologies and solutions customized to meet the operational requirements of the Field Army. It will also create an effective ecosystem for swift procurement and maintenance of selected defense products, thereby fostering innovation and adaptation.

East Tech 2023 embodies the spirit of "Atma Nirbhar Bharat" by engaging a diverse range of Indian manufacturers, including MSMEs, DRDO, DPSUs, R&D organizations, and academia. Together, they will showcase the latest and most advanced weapon and equipment technology, reaffirming India's commitment to self-reliance and bolstering its defense capabilities.

The Indian Army has taken a significant step towards ensuring that the armed forces remain at the forefront of technological innovation, ready to address the dynamic challenges of the modern world.

Giving a major push to defence manufacturers in North East, The Eastern Command, the oldest and Largest Command of the Indian Army will host a Mega Defence event "East Tech 2023".

This will be a first of a kind event in NorthEast which will showcase the latest trends in defence technology and identify the cutting-edge technologies needed for solving operational challenges in the Eastern Sector and the Indian Army will be held at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati on 10th and 11th October, 23.

The aim of the event is to facilitate Eastern Command in meeting its operational challenges by incorporating Contemporary indigenous technology." 

The two-day event cum demonstration is a joint effort of the lndian Army with the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of Assam to promote and provide a platform to various Start-Ups and major players of the Defence Industries belonging to Assam and other NE States to showcase their latest innovations in the Defence sector. 

The relentless pursuit of cutting-edge technology in defense reflects the ever-evolving nature of security challenges and the need to adapt and stay ahead in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. 

The main objective of the East Tech is to augment technological knowledge base of the participants and acquaint them with prevalent "State of Art" technologies and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions available in the defence sector. It is with an underlying aim to create awareness of contemporary technologies and hardware solutions available with Indian Defence Manufacturers under "Raksha Atmanirbharta", to meet ever evolving operational dynamics in Eastern Command with indigenous, innovative and future proof technologies, thereby promoting "Soldiering through Self Reliance". 

The event will also give a much needed push to the defence manufacturers in North East and will help in closely integrating them into the supply chains. 

Moreover, the event is focused to provide all the tools to enable our forces with Battlefield Transparency, Command and Control Architecture, Communication Systems, Information Dominance, Electronic warfare, Nano Technology IMEMS, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Unmanned warfare systems, Mobility, Chemical Biological-Radiological-Nuclear (CBRN) Defence, Advanced Weapon System, survival systems and Non-Lethal Weapons. 

A Seminar on niche technologies, with IIT Guwahati & a Medical Symposium with AIIMs, Guwahati has also been planned during the event. The Indian Armed Forces have identified technologies required to be inducted for enhancing its existing and future capabilities. 

The event will help identify suitable technologies & solutions customized to meet operational requirements of the Field Army and create an effective eco system for swift procurement and effective maintenance of the selected Defence products. The event will help identify suitable technologies and products for subsequent trial and induction in Eastern Command, as also facilitate interface of Defence manufactures with the Field Army to orient their products and further their Research & Development towards specific operational requirements.

In the true spirit of "Atma Nirbhar Bharat', the event strives to engage large number of Indian Manufacturers including MSMEs, DRDO, DPSUs, R&D Organisations' and Academia, to showcase their latest and the most advanced weapon & equipment technology at the event.
