DoNER minister updates RS on NE roads & power projects

Shillong: The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned projects for extending all-weather road connectivity in 18,098 of the 18,312 habitations in the North Eastern Region (NER) each with a population of at least 250.

This was informed by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region G. Kishan Reddy in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on August 10 while updating the House on various initiatives in the region.

The projects were sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), and these have been covered, he said.

DoNER implemented the Scheme ‘Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR)–State’ till the year 2017-18 under which projects contributing to road and power connectivity were supported in NER

The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet in place of the erstwhile NLCPR state scheme, in December 2017, which also supports road and power connectivity projects, the House was informed.

The Ministry also launched a scheme named PM-DevINE for supporting infrastructure and social development projects in the region. A total of 780 projects worth Rs 11,812.17 crore in the roads sector and 285 projects worth Rs 3,701.48 crore in the power sector have been sanctioned by the ministry in NER.
