Dr. Saumen Bharatiya, a distinguished entrepreneur and social activist, is making waves in North-East India with his organization, Byatikram, which is dedicated to promoting socio-cultural development in the region. Born and raised in the small village of Suprakandi in the Karimganj district, Dr. Bharatiya's journey from academia to activism showcases his commitment to societal betterment.

Having completed his post-graduation and M. Phil from Gauhati University, and earning a Ph.D. in Bengali Literature from Assam University, Dr. Bharatiya initially served as a lecturer at several prestigious colleges. However, his passion for social change led him to transition from academia to founding Byatikram, an organization that embodies the meaning of its name—“exception.”

Under Dr. Bharatiya's leadership, Byatikram has spearheaded numerous successful campaigns aimed at raising awareness on critical issues. Notable initiatives include a 90-day "No Horn Please" campaign in 2018 and a 60-day anti-drugs, tobacco, and liquor awareness campaign in 2022. These efforts not only educate the public but also actively engage communities in addressing pressing social challenges.

In addition to his work with Byatikram, Dr. Bharatiya has established Vicky Publishers, a prominent publishing house in the region. Since 2005, Vicky Publishers has released over 1,000 titles in Bengali, Assamese, Hindi, and English, promoting local literature and culture. Dr. Bharatiya's translation work, including significant texts from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, further highlights his dedication to cultural exchange and preservation

His entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond publishing; Dr. Bharatiya has collaborated with the Times of India Group as a business partner for the North-Eastern sector. His international experience, with exposure to cultures in countries like China, Bangladesh, Singapore, and Dubai, informs his approach to social development, allowing him to adapt global practices to local contexts.

Looking ahead, Dr. Bharatiya envisions expanding Byatikram's initiatives, particularly in education and sustainable development. He aims to empower the youth through skill development programs and foster cultural exchange, striving for a North-East that thrives on its rich heritage while effectively addressing modern challenges.
