CSIR-CMERI has unveiled a revolutionary compact tractor tailored for India's small and marginal farmers. Designed to replace traditional bullock-driven ploughs and cumbersome power tillers, this 9 hp diesel-powered tractor promises enhanced efficiency and reduced operational costs.
Equipped with 8 forward and 2 reverse speeds, a PTO with 6 splines at 540 rpm, and weighing a mere 450kg, the tractor boasts a compact design ideal for navigating small farms. Its wheelbase of 1200 mm, ground clearance of 255mm, and turning radius of 1.75m ensure manoeuvrability in tight spaces, a game-changer for rural agriculture.
A Ranchi-based MSME has committed to mass-producing these tractors, aiming to supply them through state government tenders at subsidized rates. This initiative holds the potential to significantly improve farming practices, accelerating productivity while easing financial burdens on small-scale farmers across the country.
