New Delhi: In the current fiscal year, the country's coal production increased by 5.85 per cent to reach 411.62 million tonnes (MT) as of September 12, compared to the previous year. During the previous year, this country's coal output was recorded at 388.86 MT. The coal ministry stated that there has been a notable rise, showcasing a commendable 5.85 per cent growth rate, despite challenging weather conditions impacting mining operations.
The numbers are temporary. State-owned Coal India Ltd saw an increase in production to 311 MT during the same period, representing a growth of 2.80 pc from 302.53 MT in the previous year. It mentioned that despite interruptions in mining activities in CIL subsidiaries caused by heavy rains, this growth is particularly noteworthy. The transportation of coal has also seen a significant increase, reaching 442.24 MT in 2024-25 (up to September 12), up from 421.29 MT in the previous year, showing a strong growth rate of 4.97 percent.
In addition, the transportation of coal to power stations has increased by 4.03 per cent, reaching 362.65 MT, demonstrating the industry's dedication to fulfilling the country's increasing energy needs. By Thursday, the coal companies had accumulated 76.49 million metric tons of coal, representing a 49.07 percent increase from the previous year. At the same time, domestic coal-based thermal power plants have seen their coal stocks increase to 36.58 MT, a significant growth of 43.68 per cent.
