Guwahati: In a major step towards empowering the youth and fostering a self-reliant Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed the first instalment of Rs. 75,000 to 25,238 selected entrepreneurs under the Mukhyamantrir Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan. The distribution event took place at the Veterinary College Field in Guwahati.

The scheme provides financial support to entrepreneurs, with those holding general qualifications receiving Rs. 2 lakhs (Rs. 1 lakh as a grant and Rs. 1 lakh as a loan), while those with professional qualifications in fields like engineering or medicine are eligible for Rs. 5 lakhs (Rs. 2.5 lakh each as a grant and loan).

Today’s distribution saw 25,064 general entrepreneurs and 147 professional entrepreneurs receive the first instalment of Rs. 75,000. The recipients represented diverse sectors, including agriculture, fabrication, aquaculture, poultry farming, garment manufacturing, and more.
Speaking at the event, CM Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering on its election promises, highlighting the successful recruitment of 1 lakh candidates for government jobs, with an additional 40,000 jobs created. He emphasised the transparency and fairness of the recruitment process, which has eradicated corruption, and stated that Assam is progressing towards a new era of peace, stability, and development.

Under the Mukhyamantrir Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan, entrepreneurs are required to repay only a portion of the funds over five years, starting three years after receiving the funds. The state government is also offering district-level training programs for the entrepreneurs, with the second instalment of Rs. 25,000 to be disbursed in November, followed by a final instalment based on performance.

Looking forward, CM Sarma announced the launch of a new portal on 5th October for another 75,000 youths to apply for benefits under the scheme, with plans to eventually support 1 lakh entrepreneurs. He encouraged beneficiaries to effectively use the funds to qualify for additional loans under the Prime Minister’s Mudra Scheme.

The event was attended by several ministers, MPs, and dignitaries, including Ministers Chandra Mohan Patowary, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Ajanta Neog, and Bimal Borah, among others.
