Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that by 2026, all public transportation in Guwahati will be powered by green energy and non-fossil fuels, in an effort to reduce carbon emissions. The state government is also taking steps to protect the environment, such as replacing plastic containers with earthenware, which will help to revive the pottery market.

In addition, the government of Assam is supporting India's transition to green energy by taking measures to generate 3,000 MW of solar power. The goal for the country is to generate 500 GW of solar power by 2030.

On Tuesday, CM Sarma launched the "Mission Lifestyle for Environment" (LiFE) initiative in the state, which aims to promote an environmentally conscious lifestyle. The initiative will include week-long activities across all districts, focusing on seven categories, such as saving energy and water, reducing plastic and e-waste, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
