Guwahati: Rahul Jyoti Nath and Seemon Dutta are the co-founders of 91Skylineworks Pvt. Ltd., a company focused on providing sustainable retrofitting and construction solutions. Based in Guwahati, Assam, the company was founded in 2021, following the realization that there was a significant gap in the market for professional retrofitting services. Both co-founders, being engineers, recognized the importance of addressing structural issues like cracks, water leakage, and other post-construction problems, especially in the earthquake-prone Northeast region. Northeast India falls under seismic zone five, one of the most dangerous regions for earthquakes. With the rise in RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) structures, many buildings face issues like water leakage, cracks, and structural damage. These problems affect the lifetime and integrity of buildings.

The solution offered by 91Skylineworks is retrofitting, which extends the lifespan of buildings without demolition, saving significant costs. The company estimates that retrofitting costs only about 5-10% of the total cost of building new structures from scratch. The company focuses on sustainability by reducing the need for demolitions and new constructions, which helps lower the carbon footprint. Their services include water-proofing, heat-proofing, and rainwater harvesting, all of which contribute to making buildings more energy-efficient. For example, rainwater harvesting helps recharge underground water levels, which is critical in Guwahati, where water shortages are common.Since its official launch in 2021, 91Skylineworks has grown steadily.

They started with four permanent members and now have seven, along with 35-40 contractual workers. The company’s first big breakthrough came after a major earthquake in April 2021, where they repaired 40-50 buildings in Guwahati. Their long-term growth strategy involves expanding across the Northeast region, leveraging partnerships with government and private bodies, and eventually scaling up to a national level.
