Tezpur: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in partnership with the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DI&CC), Sonitpur, organized an Industry Meet at Hotel KRC Palace, Tezpur, aimed at encouraging prospective BIS licensees to adopt quality standards. The event brought together key stakeholders from the rice, tea, and handloom industries to discuss the significance of standardization in enhancing product quality, marketability, and global competitiveness.
The program commenced with a welcome address by DI&CC Sonitpur General Manager Morgan Meston. MLA Prithviraj Rabha delivered the keynote speech, emphasizing the region's vast potential and the pivotal role of adhering to quality standards in driving growth for local industries.
On the other hand, the Director and Head of BIS Guwahati, Shouvik Chanda, highlighted BIS's initiatives to support industries in meeting certification requirements. Moreover, detailed presentations by BIS officials covered topics such as ISI certification, management systems certification, and the comprehensive framework of BIS standards.
During the interactive sessions, industry representatives bagged an opportunity to raise concerns and explore how BIS certifications could boost product quality and international acceptance. Rice industry stakeholders discussed the importance of quality benchmarks to boost export potential, while participants from the tea industry emphasized maintaining Assam’s reputation as a global leader in tea production. Representatives from the handloom sector highlighted the role of standardization in promoting traditional crafts to modern markets.
