Guwahati: ASTC City Cab, the much-anticipated ride-sharing app by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC), has finally commenced its operations after a prolonged wait, including a trial run. This ride-sharing service is the first of its kind in the city, being offered through a mobile app.

To avail of the services, people can download the ASTC City Cab app, which will provide them with a convenient way to book rides. The announcement of the app was made by State Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya in Guwahati a month prior to its launch.

The service underwent a comprehensive trial run that lasted for a month, ensuring that everything is in order before the normal operations began.

ASTC City Cab is expected to have a fleet of 50,000 cabs, making it a formidable competitor to existing ride-sharing giants like Ola and Uber in the area. As per initial reports, drivers will only be required to pay a minimal commission of ₹12.50 per day, which could make it an attractive option for drivers to join the service.

The app comes with additional features aimed at enhancing safety and user experience. It guarantees no cancellation. For safety purposes, the app includes an emergency panic button and an airport hotline button, which passengers can use in case of any emergencies or issues during their ride. Additionally, there is an AI chatbot helpdesk available to answer any questions users might have about the service.

The coverage of ASTC City Cab's service is expected to extend to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
