Assam Start-Up makes debut at Indian Mobile Congress 2024

Guwahati: In an exciting debut, five innovative start-ups from Assam showcased their potential at the Indian Mobile Congress 2024 in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone for the state's tech landscape. 

The event, held from October 15-18, attracted over 175,000 attendees and featured more than 310 exhibitors from around the globe.

Among the participants was Aziz Ali, co-founder of HookoluPay, a fintech company, who expressed his enthusiasm after engaging with numerous investors. “We met many business connections too,” he remarked, highlighting the fruitful networking opportunities the event provided” 

Gourangon Gogoi, co-founder of TREEmate , shared similar sentiments, stating, “We had 3-4 meetings with investors, including Jio, who appreciated our work.” The exposure has been instrumental in elevating the profiles of these start-ups on a national stage.

While ten start-ups from Assam applied to participate, only five were able to attend due to the Puja festival, as explained by Siddharth Bhuyan, a delegate from Assam Start-Up.

The selected companies—HookoluPay Fintech Pvt Ltd, NGN TREEmate Private Limited, Qoptars Pvt Ltd, Vivaah Velvet Pvt Ltd, and DSRL Global Private Limited—were recognized for their innovative approaches and commitment to leveraging emerging technologies.

The Indian Mobile Congress 2024, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi also marked the launch of the World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly 2024, organized by the International Telecommunication Union. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister stated, “India has democratized digital technology,” underscoring the event's significance.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, set a forward-looking tone for the Congress by discussing India's ambition to lead in 6G technology, emphasizing the nation’s reduced dependency on external technology hubs.

The conference featured prominent discussions on cutting-edge technologies, including AI, 5G, 6G, and cybersecurity, and was attended by notable dignitaries such as Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. Innovations on display included robot dogs, drones, AR/VR applications, and accident-prevention devices, showcasing the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of India.

The theme of this year’s Congress, "The Future is Now," encourages industry stakeholders to harness technological advancements for the greater good. The event served as a melting pot for ideas, with opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among industry leaders, policymakers, and tech experts from 190 countries.

In a commitment to enhancing India's telecom sector, Minister Scindia highlighted the transformative changes in recent years, including the Telecom Act 2023 and the rapid rollout of 5G technology. He expressed hopes for India to remain at the forefront of such global events in the future.

As the Assam start-ups left their mark on this prestigious platform, they not only gained national visibility but also forged valuable connections that could propel them into new avenues of growth and innovation in the tech landscape.
