Guwahati: The Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd (NUPPL) on June 13 signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Assam government to ensure the supply of 492 megawatts (MW) of power from Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant to Assam.
NUPPL, which is a joint venture subsidiary of NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), will be responsible for supplying power.
The agreement was signed between NUPPL CEO CS Santhosh and Chandan Deka, chief general manager/commercial and EE, Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) at Bijulee Bhawan in Guwahati.
As per the revised power allocation by the Ministry of Power, NUPPL’s Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant will allocate 1,487.28 MW (75.12%) to Uttar Pradesh and 492.72 MW (24.88%) to Assam.
The PPA has been signed for 25 years.
APDCL will also get a 20% stake in NUPPL, in about two to three months from now.
NLCIL CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli expressed the company’s commitment to contributing to the growth of Assam, Uttar Pradesh and the country as a whole through the signing of this agreement.
NUPPL CEO CS Santhosh stated that this PPA is a significant achievement for the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project and will bring confidence among stakeholders, ensuring the project’s sustainability.
Earlier in February this year, the ministry had revised the power allocation from NUPPL’s 3X660MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant. Based on the revision, Uttar Pradesh and Assam have been allocated with 1,487.28MW (75.12%) and 492.72MW (24.88%) of power supply, respectively.
The Ghatampur supercritical coal-fired power plant is going to be commissioned by March 2024. The plant is being built at a cost of Rs 19,200 crore, of which around Rs 15,800 crore has been utilised.
