Guwahati: The Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (AIIDC) is introducing a new concept called the ‘flatted factory’ for the first time in the North East.
This will be located near the Guwahati Airport in Rani. The Managing Director of AIIDC, Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, highlighted that this initiative is aimed at boosting the economy of the region by providing modern industrial infrastructure.
A flatted factory is a multi-storeyed building designed to accommodate various general manufacturing processes. These facilities are usually constructed with the intention of being sold or leased to manufacturing businesses.
“The construction of the flatted factory in Rani is already in progress, with a budget of Rs 29 crore allocated for the project. The establishment of this flatted factory is part of AIIDC’s broader goal of creating quality industrial infrastructure and promoting startups in the region,” said Phookan.
In recent times, the concept of flatted factories has gained popularity in various parts of India, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Lucknow. These facilities provide an efficient way to house multiple manufacturing businesses in a shared space, making it easier for companies to access essential resources and services while reducing overall operational costs.
AIIDC operates across 41 areas, each designated as an industrial estate. These estates aim to provide well-equipped spaces for industrial activities, along with necessary infrastructure such as power stations, connectivity, and support staff.
The corporation has successfully established industrial growth centres in locations like Chaygaon and Doomdooma where companies like Hindustan Unilever Limited have set up their centre as well, contributing to the industrial development of the state.
In addition to the ongoing project in Rani, AIIDC has plans to establish more industrial development and growth centres in the coming years. The corporation is actively collaborating with district administrations to secure land allotments for these future projects.
