Imphal: The Assam Rifles have established a mobile electricity point in Veitum Khullen village in Manipur's Senapati district to help villagers charge their mobile phones, power banks, and emergency lights during bad weather, officials said.
"The point was established in a goodwill gesture, following the successful repair and maintenance of 1.5 kilometers of damaged road in Nagaland", the Rifles said in a release, adding that the initiative aimed to enhance connectivity and improve infrastructure in remote border areas, facilitating better movement for villagers and bolstering security measures along the border.
The Rifles' engineering unit led the repair work, which included filling potholes, leveling the road surface, and reinforcing vulnerable sections. Local villagers actively participated in the project, providing labor and knowledge to ensure the repairs were effectively carried out.
The development has been reported amid ethnic violence in the state between the Meitei people, a majority that lives in the Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo tribal community from the surrounding hills.
