Guwahati: Assam has seen robust development under the present government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal said during a recent conversation with Business North East. The state's latest budget will further accelerate Assam’s growth story, according to the Minister.

"I am personally very impressed by several key investments and initiatives put forth by the government", Singhal told this platform. One of the highlights that caught Singhal’s attention was the "substantial allocation towards infrastructure development" in the urban areas, he said.

"The budget outlined plans to improve road networks, construct bridges, and upgrade transportation systems across the state", Singhal pointed out.

The Minister's comments came against the backdrop of the Assam government lining up the inauguration and launch of projects worth an aggregate of Rs 23,000 crores across the State.

"The budget allocated funds for the establishment of new development through infrastructural and technological advancements, emphasizing the state’s commitment to becoming self-reliant and among the top five states in India", Singhal told BNE.

"The government’s proactive approach towards addressing critical sectors will pave the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for Assam", he said, adding that youth empowerment initiatives will also be key to Assam's future.

A day earlier, Singhal revealed that Guwahati, the largest city in the region, has risen from rank 97 to 59 among cities chosen for the smart city programme in terms of progress.
