Assam government signs Petroleum Exploration Licenses deeds with OIL

Guwahati: The Assam government and Oil India Ltd. have signed Petroleum Exploration License deeds for two OALP blocks. Around 12 Crore will be invested by Oil in these projects, and seismic survey will begin in February 2023.

The deeds were signed on behalf of the government and Oil India Limited by Ananda Kr. Das, Joint Secretary and Director (Geology & Mining), Government of Assam, and J.P. Das, Executive Director (Frontier Basin), OIL.

The two OALP blocks are AA-ONHP-2021/2 and AA-ONHP-2021/3.

The area under the block, AS-ONHP-2021/2 measuring 2445.30 Sq.km falls in the districts of Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, and Kamrup District (Pathsala Block) whereas the block, AS-ONHP-2021/3 measuring 1840.87 Sq.km is spread in the areas of Udalguri, Kamrup & Darrang districts of Assam (Mangaldai Block).

This is the first time of oil history to start exploration for Crude oil and Natural scribe Gas in the northern bank of Brahmaputra in lower Assam. If the area proves promising then it will bring new dimension to the state.
