Assam farmers can now have better bargaining power as they will have market information of agricultural commodities with the click of a button now.
Minister of Agriculture, Atul Bora launched the website of the Agricultural Market Intelligence Unit (AMIU) recently.
The portal provides daily wholesale market information on Agricultural commodities. The website was developed by Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat under the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART).
The overall aim of AMIU is to increase information transparency, profitability and market access to the farming community in all districts of Assam.
The market information is collected from 64 wholesale markets of Assam and is disseminated through multiple channels.
Farmers can also subscribe for free SMS service from the website to get daily market information for the wholesale markets and commodities of their choice.
The portal would help the Farmer Producer Companies/ farmers in knowing about the prices of commodities in different wholesale markets of Assam, improving the bargaining power of the farmers, deciding on when and which market to sell for better remuneration and AMIU district teams can help farmers/ FPCs in identifying buyers in different districts.
