Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday chaired a meeting with officials on the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan under which women are being disbursed funds to become entrepreneurs.
Biswa Sarma reviewed the status of applications, the web portal, and the feasibility of the proposals and instructed officials to ensure that there are no loopholes in the entire process. This project aims to support women workers so they can earn an annual income of Rs1 lakh. The government plans to provide Rs. 35,000 in financial assistance to 40 lakh women. It mostly seeks to support women in self-help groups (SHGs) engaged in small business work. Rs.3,900 crore has been set aside to implement the scheme.
The scheme aims to turn SHG women into rural women entrepreneurs and make them lakhpati baidos (Elder Sister). The government has prepared a list of 145 business ventures for women to initiate under the Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan.
In the first year, the government will grant Rs.10,000 as a seed fund to fulfill the purpose of business venture initiatives. In the second year, successful women entrepreneurs will receive a sum of Rs. 25,000, with Rs. 12,500 received as a bank loan and the rest granted by the state government. The disbursement of money in the second phase will be done after a proper evaluation of the business initiatives and development during the first phase.
Eligibility criteria for the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan Assam scheme include having a minimum of 10 years of experience in self-help group work, and having a minimum of 5 years of experience in entrepreneurship.
