Dispur: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a series of initiatives during a recent cabinet meeting to bolster economic empowerment and preserve cultural legacies.

In a bid to foster entrepreneurship, the government has earmarked a grant of Rs 1 lakh each for 30,000 young entrepreneurs under the Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijaan scheme. Scheduled for distribution in September 2024, this initiative aims to ignite economic growth and create avenues for self-reliance among the youth of Assam.

One of the key announcements includes the issuance of 15 lakh additional ration cards, extending the support to 2.86 crore people across the state. Furthermore, the cabinet has resolved to approach UNESCO member countries to accelerate the recognition of Charaideo Maidam as a World Heritage Site. Similar to the pyramids of Egypt, the maidams are burial grounds of Ahom Kings and Queens.

In a nod to the state's illustrious history, Prasar Bharati will undertake the production of a 52-episode documentary on Ahom general Lachit Borphukan. With an allocation of Rs 20 crore, this endeavor seeks to disseminate Borphukan's heroic legacy across the nation, ensuring that his contributions are celebrated and remembered for generations to come.

Additionally, the government has secured a loan of Rs 634.35 crore from NABARD to finance various developmental projects, officials announced.
