Agartala: In a bid to uplift the socio-economic condition of the indigenous people, who constitute one-third of the state's estimated 40 lakh population, the Tripura government has decided to launch the Mukhya-Mantri Tribal Development Mission.

"A sum of Rs 30 crore would be spent in the first year for the mission, which would be increased every year," Agartala Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury stated.

The mission will focus on establishing employment possibilities through developing the youth's skills and building other infrastructure, including new roads and drinking water facilities, in the tribally dominant districts of the Tripura Tribal District Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

In addition to the existing funds for the development of the tribal people, Chowdhury stated that the current scheme was intended to give a boost to their growth. The BJP had pledged during the election to carry out development for the indigenous people.

The Mukhya-Mantri Tribal Development Mission aims to improve the socioeconomic conditions of indigenous tribal groups in particular by providing them with basic amenities like secure housing, clean drinking water and sanitary facilities, improved access to education, health, and nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
