Wokha: The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) of the central government in collaboration with Shishoi Oshim-ETF Cell Wokha, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and the Department of Fisheries & AR, Wokha, organized a three-day skill development-training program on 'Fish Preservation & Value Addition' from July 2 to 4, 2024.
The event took place in Wokha and Sanis town, with 25 young entrepreneurs participating. Expert resource persons from ICAR-RC for NEH Umiam, NFDB-NERC, and officers from the Wokha District Fisheries Office shared their knowledge. The training focused on hygienic handling of fish and covered various preservation methods.
Participants learned to prepare value-added fish products, such as pickles, cutlets, sausages, pakoras, fish fingers, and fish balls, which provide lucrative revenue opportunities for unemployed youth with minimal investment. The program also included awareness sessions on governmental schemes and subsidies for entrepreneurial initiatives.
