Major convention centre in Northeast India set for completion by 2025, says Assam CM

Guwahati: A major convention centre with a seating capacity of 5,000 is expected to be completed by early 2025, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

The centre is being developed as a key infrastructure project aimed at positioning Guwahati as a premier hub for both national and international events.

Chief Minister Sarma emphasised the project's importance in enhancing Guwahati's economic and cultural landscape. He reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the timely completion of the facility, stating, "We want to establish Guwahati as the preferred venue for national and international exhibitions," in a post on X (formerly Twitter)

To honour Assam's cultural heritage, Sarma proposed the formation of a committee of ten distinguished artists from the state's cultural community. This group will collaborate to ensure the convention centre embodies Assam's rich traditions.
The project is anticipated to significantly boost tourism and generate substantial revenue, providing a major economic uplift to the local -economy.
